MEGT Information Technology - Project Manager

OBJECTIVES OF THE DIVISION

The IT Division is tasked with providing Information Technology services and solutions in support of all operational divisions and MEGT business objectives. These services include the provision and maintenance of hardware, software and network infrastructure, helpdesk services, as well as application support and solutions.

 

From a Project Management and Business Process perspective the IT Division’s objective is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of MEGT by providing executive level governance of all MEGT processes and projects to ensure they align with the overall MEGT organisational goals.  This is achieved by facilitating optimal project management and business process outcomes and resource allocation.


 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The role has end to end project accountability commencing with scoping & obtaining approval for projects in line with business objectives, managing business requirements & identifying business process improvements. Extensive liaison and collaboration are required to ensure stakeholder engagement throughout projects, including with Business representatives to ensure projects meet the current and future needs of users, and appropriate training and procedures are in place.

 

The role is responsible for defining business cases, preparation and management of project plans, budgets, timeframes, risks and issues from project inception through to implementation using industry standard project management methodologies. 

 

The role will also work collaboratively with other divisions to ensure that the most appropriate project resources are allocated and managed, and that cost effective and timely solutions are designed and delivered, accurately managing customer expectations throughout the project lifecycle and delivering a high-quality of customer service.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 2 to 5 years’ experience in management of multiple projects of $50k to $400k value.

  • Demonstrated experience in the successful delivery of projects to agreed measures, including customer satisfaction, preferably in the commercial sector.

  • Proven high level leadership acumen with demonstrated ability to motivate and empower people to achieve organisational objectives. 

  • Extensive experience in business analysis and business change and continuous improvement processes.

  • Experience with a proven quality project management methodology.

  • Demonstrated experience in successfully managing project teams to deliver quality outcomes in line with organisational objectives. 

  • Strong strategic planning and financial management skills with a data-drive approach.

  • Experience in software development projects, and a good understanding of the SDLC, including gathering and specification of requirements, and effective QA and testing processes.

  • Strong analytical skills with creative, and problem-solving capabilities, making decisions based on evidence balanced with experience and intuition. 

  • High level of digital literacy, in particular Microsoft O365 and related suite of products. 

  • Demonstrated capability to successfully influence and negotiate within a complex and fast-changing business environment in order to achieve efficient and effective business outcomes, including with vendors and customers. 


 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES 

  • Able to self-motivate and lead teams to successfully deliver quality outcomes and excellent customer service. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively as a member of a diverse team and liaise with technical and non-technical staff at all levels of the organisation.

  • Ability to set and manage project scope and expectations and identify potential areas of risk.

  • An awareness of new and emerging technologies and their potential application within MEGT.

  • Excellent customer service skills and positive customer service attitude towards both internal and external customers, with a passion for measuring and increasing customer satisfaction.  

  • Well-developed planning, organisational, priority setting and time management skills, able to balance strategic level thinking with detailed process and procedural understanding. 

 

Desirable:

  • Experience in business process mapping and/or business analysis.

  • Formal PM qualifications will be highly regarded.

  • Tertiary qualifications, preferably in the area of Information Technology, will be well regarded.

  • Experience in the development and delivery of communication and training plans.


 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and successfully execute project plans, including delivery within agreed scope, budgets, and timeframes. 

  • Identify resource needs and allocation to achieve project goals, including updates due to change in scope/circumstances, and negotiate in collaboration with relevant divisions for appropriate resources. 

  • Manage the project scope, tasks, and deliverables, defining project success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout the project lifecycle, recognising achievements when met.  

  • Utilise quality industry standard processes and project methodologies, including quality assurance and risk management practices.

  • Analyse and evaluate data to provide accurate, reliable and secure regular tracking and reporting on project status.

  • Forecast and maintain an accurate view of expected project completion time and costs and communicate clearly with all interested internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Identify and recognise the priorities of vendors, negotiating where required and establishing collaborative development and improvement activities. 

  • Work effectively and collaboratively as part of the project team to drive, influence and achieve business objectives, including by facilitating open communication and discussion at team meetings.

  • Facilitate clear and open communication between project team and stakeholders (including the Information Management Committee). 

  • Resolve and/or escalate project issues and changes in scope, with a commitment to continuous improvement. 

  • Empower divisional managers and project team members to take initiative by providing training and resources to utilise appropriate change management techniques. 

  • Assist with business analysis and gathering of project requirements.

NATIONAL POLICE CHECK

This position is required to undertake a National Police Check prior to commencing employment. A State/Territory Working with Children or Working with Vulnerable People Check may also be required by any applicable State/Territory legislation. The National Police Check must be renewed every two years as a minimum.
