About Chef for Life 

Chef for Life is a three-week program for people interested in developing a career in the food and hospitality industry, including school leavers with little or no relevant work experience. 

Participants will: 

  • Learn basic food preparation and cookery skills  
  • Gain knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices 
  • Develop time management, multi-tasking and communication skills 
  • Build other work-ready skills to enhance their resume 
  • Make connections with potential employers 

 

Chef for Life participants will undertake the SSDIS01007 Basic Skills for the Food Industry Skill Set with HITsa Training and Employment, Chef for Life's Registered Training Organisation (RTO) partner.

 

Unlocking apprenticeship and career pathways 

Once the Chef for Life program is completed, MEGT supports participants into an apprenticeship to help make their culinary dream a reality! Possible career pathways include cooking, catering, working front of house or kitchen operations.

MEGT helps people from all backgrounds and abilities, so get in touch if you or someone you know meets the following criteria: 

  • Australian citizen or permanent resident with work rights in Australia 
  • Live in South Australia 
  • Aged 16 or over 
  • Completed Year Ten 
  • Not currently enrolled in school 

 

Chef for Life is supported by the Government of South Australia. Program partners include HITsa Training and Employment, mteSA and Workskil Australia.
