Enhancing Car2Bus II

Car2Bus

A targeted pre-employment program to rev up Queensland's transport workforce

MEGT is pleased to work with Major Training to deliver an innovative pre-employment program, Car2Bus, aimed at upskilling women, First Nations people and migrants for jobs across Queensland’s Road transport industry.

What is the Car2Bus program?

The 12-month program will assist around 470 jobseekers to “rev-up” their heavy vehicle driving skills readiness, by acquiring their entry medium rigid vehicle license, together with enhanced driver safety via virtual reality training.

Three quarters of the program participants will be based in Southeast Queensland, while the rest of the cohort will be in the Cairns and Townsville regions. We’ve partnered with employers including Kinetic, Australia’s leading bus group and Indigenous owned employment provider Five Bridges to help deliver positive employment outcomes for the participants.

What will the program involve?

The program’s participants will undertake an innovative two-week training course which includes:

•    Core technical and heavy vehicle driving skills.

•    An innovative, Virtual Reality component delivering specialised driver safety training that will offer realistic and safe environments to build confidence and skills that would otherwise be unsafe or prohibitive to train.

•    Employment ready skills.

The program is funded by the Department of Youth, Justice, Employment, Small Business and Training, as part of the Good people. Good jobs: Queensland Workforce Strategy 2022-2032. All successful programs can be viewed here: Workforce Connect Fund projects.

Declan’s story below

For Declan, the Car2Bus program has been life changing. Declan lives with a disability and he hadn’t been able to secure or hold a job for more than 10 years. Through Car2Bus, Declan was able to obtain his MR licence and his Tow Truck drivers’ authority. Declan is now employed by Redcliffe Towing and he loves his job!
