Get your head in the game

4 October, 2024

Happy World Mental Health Day! Today, let's take a moment to celebrate our mental well-being, especially for all you hardworking apprentices out there! This year’s theme, “Mental Health at Work,” shines a spotlight on the vital link between our mental health and our workspaces.

Let’s be real, being an apprentice can be a wild ride. Juggling work, studies, and personal life is no small feat, and feelings of anxiety or burnout can creep in, especially in those demanding second or third years. That's where the incredible mentors at MEGT step in and can make a huge difference in your mental state.

How does mentoring support you:

  • Navigating challenges: Whether it's work, school or personal issues, mentors are right there to lend a helping hand. They help you develop tools and strategies to cope with any anxieties you might face along the way
  • Regular check-ins: They’re always ready to listen. With regular site visits or phone calls, your mentor ensures you're supported throughout your apprenticeship journey
  • Mental health support: From providing mental health first aid to connecting you with professional resources, mentors empower you to prioritise your mental health.
  • Career guidance: Unsure about your next steps? Mentors offer valuable career insights to help you thrive in your chosen field
  • Inclusive support: Mentors help without judgement. They provide tailored assistance for Indigenous, disabled, and female apprentices, ensuring everyone feels supported

On World Mental Health Day, take a moment for yourself. Open conversations about mental well-being can significantly reduce stigma and foster a supportive culture in your workplace. Whether through mentoring at MEGT or seeking professional help through different sources, reaching out for support is a courageous and essential step in prioritising your mental health.
