This is a traineeship towards a dental assisting role. We are looking for someone who is committed to the pursuit of a career as a Dental Assistant. Completion of the traineeship will be followed by a  long-term employment position. The position if part-time initially (3 days/week) with potential to increase days further into the role. As a dental assistant, you will have steady and fixed hours, no weekend or public holiday work and any overtime work will be paid at 1.5 rate.

You will be a crucial member of the dental team and learn about a wide range of dental procedures and theory. You will become an expert at infection control and learn about good time management.  You will be responsible, with the dentist, to ensure patient comfort during treatments and improve their experience at the dentist.

 A dental-assisting career can lead to progression to higher roles in practice administration and management for the right candidate in the long term. 

The trainee will have to enrol in a certificate III in dental assisting course at an eligible training provider such as:

  • Kangan Tafe.
  • Box Hill Institute.
  • RMIT Dental Studies.

The trainee will be attending classes online and on-premises as required by the training institution. 

Training will also be provided on-site by the dentist and involves both theoretical and practical components. Study material will be provided both by the practice and the TAFE chosen by the candidate. Some pre-reading and online hand-hygiene training will be required before starting. 

About Us:

We are a general dental practice and our dentist is experienced in a wide range of dental disciplines, including cosmetic and orthodontic treatment.

We are experienced in dealing with trainees, with 1 successful trainee already employed in our practice currently.

Our dentist will personally ensure the trainee is given the proper education and resources needed to become a fully competent dental assistant. 

About the opportunity:  
Tasks will include, but are not limited to: 

  • Assisting the dentist during treatment of patients.
  • Preparing patients & facilities for dental treatment 
  • Meeting and greeting clients into the office 
  • Assisting main dental assistant in instrument processing, changeovers and surgery maintenance.
  • Infection control
  • Sterilization 
  • Taking HICAPS and EFTPOS payments 
  • Reception duties (booking appointments, scheduling, phone queries)
  • Maintaining stock 
  • Manage office supplies stock and place orders

Remuneration

The hourly rate for trainees is set by Fair Work and depends on the number of years since the applicant has finished school.
